How COVID-19 Had a Big Influence in Sales in Certain Sectors

For everyone working in customer service, the last few months have been anything but the ordinary. Pretty much every company has seen changes, which sooner or later impact the customer service. Some companies in the tourism sector had a hell of a time getting all their travelers back home, other companies saw their sales spike and others saw their sales drop, which left the customer service out of work. In this article, we take a look at the products/sectors that saw their sales spike.

Online shopping became the new standard

Online shopping has always been a booming business, but lots of customers still relied on actual stores for certain products. For instance, many people prefer to try on shoes or go to the hardware store to ask for advice on a product they want to buy. Because of COVID-19, whole new markets shifted towards online and they weren’t always the markets you’d expect!

For instance, everyone expected the sales for groceries such as canned goods or pasta, disinfectants, masks and latex gloves to spike. But could you have guessed that resistance bands and hair dyes would see huge spikes in sales?

Unexpected products that people were buying online

Did you know that next to resistance bands, tiny weights and other home work-out tools were also flying off the shelves? Or that hair dye saw a huge spike in sales because the salons were closed? Another interesting one is the fact that jacuzzi’s were selling like hotcakes, according to Fonteyn Spa’s, the Netherlands’ biggest retailer. “From Bestway jacuzzis to hottubs for 2 people (Dutch: hottub 2 personen), all our products were selling like crazy these last few months”, according to the company.

Impact on customer service

The fact that some companies over-performed and others lost a lot of customers, obviously impacted customer service. While some enjoyed some peace and quiet, others had super busy months.

Did you notice a big difference in your company?
